About UBuntu Bridge
- Xhosa Training
UBuntu Bridge is a company that has taught in Corporates, Government NGOs, pre-school classes and to adult groups since 2005 with classes of usually between 10 and 20 participants, and sometimes up to 35 in our vibrant lessons. We train and employ young and fresh Xhosa facilitators whose energy and enthusiasm inspire and motivate the learners. Our materials are in process of being SETA accredited and known widely as an excellent place to start learning about Xhosa and, well, about being African.
UBuntu for us is the understanding that we, as people and as manifestations of an incredible, scientifically illogical, miraculous phenomenon known as life, are all fundamentally connected (scientifically proven as one field of energy merely vibrating at different frequencies so as to create differentiated physical presence). Thus the well-being of others and life on earth effects our own well-being and in turn our own health, well-being and happiness will become reflected in the outer world. If people can start to learn to love themselves and claim back their own power, we will see the shifts we want in the world.
The Intention of awareness and respect for another person and all of life is integral to how we operate, and we believe that comes across in our teaching and to our students. We attribute it to and believe in the inherent Ubuntu within us all, even if sometimes buried beneath the fears, insecurities and doubts that form part of the human experience on earth.
Craig Makhosi Charnock learnt isiMpondo (a mix of Zulu and Xhosa), as a young adult and is still learning today. His method of teaching, as found in the Audio CDs and manuals has proved to be just the right formula for other adults and teens from all backgrounds taking on a third language, and his courses and audio learning products enjoy popularity and very positive feedback from students around the world.
Craig, with the help of UB's General Operations Manager Sensei Ndlovu, intends to develop accredited courses for mother tongue African language speakers to teach their own languages as a foreign language. Essentially TEFL but for Xhosa (TXFL) and Zulu (TZFL). Combining with Craig's belief in the beauty and wisdom of rural, indigenous communities, we hope to encourage micro-business in the form of language focussed home-stays in both the traditional rural areas and the townships of South Africa, bringing income into under-resourced areas and generating the self-worth that comes from active engagement in one's own culture, teaching, and generating sustainable income and business models for oneself and one's community.
