First time hearing about International Mother Language Day?
International Mother Language Day remembers the killing of four students on February 21, 1952, because they campaigned to officially use their mother language, Bengali, in Bangladesh. It is a public holiday in Bangladesh where it is also known as Shohid Dibôsh, or Shaheed Day. This day is an observance in other parts of the world, but is perhaps not so well known in South Africa.
